Endothelial Cell Loss: Comparison between Torsional and Longitudinal Phacoemulsification

چکیده
Introduction here have been significant advances in cataract surgery in last 3 decades, and improvements are ongoing. Studies have evaluated several methods to reduce the amount of ultrasound (US) energy intraoperatively; these include various power modulations, nuclear chopping techniques, microincision cataract surgery, and infusion and irrigation systems. Ultrasound power is considered a risk factor for endothelial cell loss, and the use of high US energy is associated with heat generation and damage to the endothelium.

Corneal endothelial morphology and function after torsional and longitudinal ultrasound mode phacoemulsification.
PURPOSE To study the endothelial cell morphology and corneal thickness changes after phacoemulsification by using the OZil torsional and longitudinal ultrasound techniques (Infiniti Vision System, Alcon Laboratories). SETTING Department of Ophthalmology, Clinical Center, University of Debrecen, Debrecen, Hungary. METHODS 52 patients with cataract were randomly assigned to longitudinal ultra...

PURPOSE To compare the intraoperative performances and postoperative outcomes of cataract surgery performed with longitudinal phacoemulsification and torsional phacoemulsification in moderate and hard cataracts. METHODS Of 85 patients who had senile cataracts, 102 eyes were operated on using the Infiniti Vision System. Preoperative examinations (slit lamp examination, mean central corneal thi...
متن کاملTorsional phacoemulsification: A pilot study to revise the “harm scale” evaluating the endothelial damage and the visual acuity after cataract surgery
PURPOSE To study the effect of torsional phacoemulsification energy on corneal endothelium evaluating the relationship between changes of endothelial cells and postoperative visual acuity. METHODS This prospective clinical observational cohort study included 50 patients with cataract who underwent torsional phacoemulsification. Sequential quantitative and qualitative morphometric endothelial ...

PURPOSE/AIM OF THE STUDY To present a phacoemulsification technique for hard cataracts and compare postoperative results using two different ultrasonic tip motions during quadrant removal. MATERIALS AND METHODS A phacoemulsification technique which employs in situ fracture and endocapsular debulking for hard cataracts is presented. The prospective study included 56 consecutive cases of hard c...

PURPOSE This paper compares and evaluates the corneal morphological changes occurring after cataract surgery through a 2.2 mm corneal incision. We use two platforms for comparison and evaluation, transversal and torsional phacoemulsification. PATIENTS AND METHODS This study includes 139 consecutive cataractous eyes (nuclear color 2-4, according to the Lens Opacities Classification System III ...
